Delegation Scope is the constitutional charter of the human-agent relationship, a negotiated treaty that defines the boundaries of what an autonomous or semi-autonomous agent is permitted to do on behalf of its human principal. It is not merely a technical specification but a profound act of social, legal, and ethical design, representing the invisible fence that ensures safety and utility in agentic systems. The central challenge is to craft a scope that is both flexible enough to be useful and rigid enough to prevent catastrophic overreach. The thoughtful design of this scope is the critical enabler for a future of effective and safe human-agent collaboration, ensuring that as we grant greater autonomy to digital deputies, we do so with clarity, foresight, and a robust framework of control that protects user interests while unlocking the full potential of artificial intelligence.

The Evidence

The necessity of a well-defined Delegation Scope is evident in the Grammar of Authority, a framework that translates the linguistic act of delegation into computational reality.
